FAQ

DRESS CODE

Wedding:

Beach formal is the vibe—think stylish, polished looks made with light, breathable fabrics that’ll keep you comfortable and photo-ready. The ceremony and reception will both take place on the beach, so keep the setting in mind when choosing your footwear and outfit. If you’re unsure, feel free to send us outfit ideas—we can’t wait to see everyone looking and feeling their best!

 Barcelo Restaurants:

If you plan to dine at any of the restaurants on the Barcelo resort property, be aware that they enforce a dress code. Formal shorts are allowed; no swimsuits, sweatpants, or flip-flops. Closed-toe shoes, tennis shoes, or formal sandals are allowed.

TRAVEL INFORMATION

What airport should I fly into?

You’ll want to book a flight to Cancun International Airport (CUN), which is about a 1-hour drive to the resort. (See below for transportation options!) A valid passport is required for entry into Mexico.

We recommend booking flights early for the best rates—Google Flights is great for setting price alerts.

From IAD, Southwest and United offer direct flights to Cancun.

From DIA, Southwest, United, and Frontier offer direct flights.

Try to arrive early in the day so you can settle in and start relaxing, and aim for a later return flight to give yourself plenty of time for shuttles, immigration, and security. (Cancun Airport can be very busy during peak season—plan to arrive at least 3 hours before your flight home.)

How do I get to the resort?

When you book your room, you’ll have the option to add private round-trip ground transportation through the resort for $69 per person. The resort will collect your flight info closer to your departure to coordinate pick-up and drop-off times.

Flying with friends or want to arrange your own ride? No problem! Just make sure you're at the Barceló Maya Rivieraon time so we can party together.

DURING YOUR STAY

Can we explore other Barceló resorts?

Yes! Barceló Maya Riviera is part of a six-resort complex, and you’ll have full access to all the other resorts during your stay. You can take the free double-decker bus between properties or walk along the beach.

Just note: Barceló Maya Riviera is the adults-only resort, and only guests staying there can access this specific section.(Resort Property Map).

Should we bring tip money?

Tips aren’t required, but they are very appreciated! While food and drinks are all included, the staff go above and beyond to make your stay amazing. We usually bring $1 bills (USD) for tipping bartenders, housekeeping, etc.

We’ll be covering gratuity during all wedding events!

Will my phone work in Mexico?

It depends on your carrier—check before you go.

T-Mobile often includes free international coverage

AT&T and Verizon usually offer daily rates

The resort has Wi-Fi, so you might not even need service. If you’re planning to leave the property or explore more of Mexico, we recommend downloading WhatsApp, which is widely used there.
